It&#8217;s a nation known for historic sites related to a succession of rulers including the Romans, Moors, Knights of Saint John, French and British. It has numerous fortresses, megalithic temples and the \u0126al Saflieni Hypogeum, a subterranean complex of halls\u00a0and burial chambers dating to circa 4000 B.C.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the largest island, also called Malta, is the capital Valletta, a medieval fortress city and site of high baroque St John\u2019s Co-Cathedral containing 2 Caravaggio paintings. Mdina, a walled medieval city; and beaches both lively (Golden Bay, Mellieha Bay) and quiet (Paradise Bay).<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><iframe style=\"border: 0;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m18!1m12!1m3!1d6578378.254854116!2d11.102162645821668!3d36.53731118296166!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x130e45281d8647c5%3A0xf582d86136be4239!2sMalta!5e0!3m2!1sen!2sro!4v1550499380545\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the island of Gozo, Dwejra Bay features natural coastal formations, dive sites including the Blue Hole\u2013an underwater chimney\u2013and a lagoon nicknamed the Inland Sea.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Between Malta and Gozo, tiny Comino offers the Blue Lagoon, popular for snorkelling. When the sun goes down, Malta\u2019s many nightclubs come alive with tracks spun by international DJs.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When to go to Malta<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peak travel season is summer (Jun\u2013Aug), with hot days and the biggest crowds at attractions and beaches. Key annual events include the Malta International Fireworks Festival (Apr) in Valletta\u2019s Grand Harbour. G\u0127anafest ( Jun), celebrating traditional Maltese and international folk music and the Malta Arts and Jazz festivals (Valletta, Jul). to visit in Malta<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So there\u2019s technically three islands that comprise Malta;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>the main one which is just Malta<\/li>\r\n<li>maller one called Gozo<\/li>\r\n<li>and a tiny one in between called Comino where the famous Blue Lagoon is.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All are easily accessible by car, bus, and ferry.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Valetta<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img
