Offshore are turtles (this is a major global sea-turtle nesting area), dolphins and whales, plus diving, snorkeling, sportfishing and some of North America&#8217;s best surfing swells. In this tropical climate, the pace is never too hectic, the atmosphere is relaxed and the people are welcoming. Everywhere the scenery is spectacular and you&#8217;re in direct touch with the elements wherever you go, from the half-hidden sandy beaches to the crashing surf to the forest-clad, river-threaded mountains rising just inland. No need to pack too many clothes!<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<h2 class=\"intro-narrative__heading\">La Huasteca Potosina<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-376 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/vookbook.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/huasteca-potosina-puente-de-dios-tamasopo-mexico.jpg\" alt=\"Mexico\" width=\"675\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vookbook.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/huasteca-potosina-puente-de-dios-tamasopo-mexico.jpg 675w, https:\/\/vookbook.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/huasteca-potosina-puente-de-dios-tamasopo-mexico-630x420.jpg 630w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 675px) 100vw, 675px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The stunning, tropical Huasteca Potosina is a lush, remote subregion of San Luis Potos\u00ed but worlds away from it in both geography and climate. Filled will incredible waterfalls and swimming holes, the result of the rivers that flow eastward from the slopes of the Sierra Madre Oriental, this alluring region offers some of central Mexico&#8217;s most breathtaking scenery. The waterfalls here look as though they\u2019ve been photoshopped, so rich is their aquamarine hue due to the high calcium content in the surrounding rocks. The rich culture of the local Huastec people (T\u00e9nek), plus extraordinary sinkholes, caves and bird-watching, make a visit here extremely rewarding. The best time to visit is in dry season, between November and March. Despite the (literally) boatloads of tourists, there&#8217;s a lovely, relaxed, Caribbean vibe that you won&#8217;t find further north, and once the passengers have returned to their ships, a quiet calm settles over the town.
