Environmental impacts have inspired all of us

Biking Tours for Teens

The impassioned calls for action from teen activists like Greta Thunberg to combat global warming and other man-made environmental impacts have inspired all of us – but perhaps none more so than the younger generation who see themselves leading the charge to protect the future.

To appeal to Gen Z’s environmental- and social-consciousness and their sense of adventure to immerse themselves in global cultures, Intrepid Travel, the world’s largest B Corp certified carbon-neutral adventure travel company, has launched a new Family Cycling tour range specifically for those with teens. The ten-day trips will launch in March 2020, visiting one of the country’s most popular destinations: Morocco, Thailand or Vietnam. During the experience, families will have the opportunity to disconnect from technology and reconnect with one another.

The younger generation…wants to make more informed and responsible choices

“The younger generation…wants to make more informed and responsible choices, including in the way they travel,” says Dyan McKie, family product manager for Intrepid Travel. “Cycling gives families a chance to connect, be outside, travel slower, and really get to know a destination through it sights, smells, and roads – something you can’t do behind the window of a vehicle!”

The Morocco Family Cycling Holiday (starting at US$1380/€1245 per person) takes travelers to Morocco, Casablanca, Tangier, Chefchauouen, Fes and Marrakech, biking up to twenty-one miles per day on varied terrain while exploring the culinary culture and history. Those on the trip can take photos of and soak in the Mediterranean coast, medina and markets; when it gets too hot a private minivan is a welcome retreat.

Thailand Family Cycling Holiday

During the Thailand Family Cycling Holiday (starting at US$1625/€1465 per person), families can experience wildlife in the jungles, the energy of the city canals and the laid-back life in small villages. The itinerary starts in bustling Bangkok and heads down to Southern Thailand. Highlights include a market breakfast and longtail boat ride in Phang Nga, accommodations like a jungle treehouse and floating bungalow in Khao Sok National Park and paddling through Mangrove forests and coves on a kayak in Ao Thalane Bay.

Vietnam Family Cycling Holiday

And as the Vietnam Family Cycling Holiday (starting at US$1345/€1213 per person) traverses the country from Ho Chi Minh to Hoi An, adventures await including cycling through the Chu Chi tunnels, relaxing on Mui Ne beach, snorkeling in and cruising the turquoise waters of Nha Trang and a culinary lesson. “Families will have the opportunity to take a cooking class with the famous Mrs. Cam Van, a renowned chef who has hosted her own TV show about Vietnamese cuisine which is a perfect opportunity to gain knowledge about the country’s culinary culture, and in the process, learn how to create a delicious meal,” McKie says.

The new tours build on Intrepid’s existing collection of Family and Cycling trips and are designed for travelers aged ten and above. As McKie puts it, “Cycling through a destination is an active and responsible way to explore.”
